Gilet Fact:
Gilet is a French word, which was developed from the Spanish chaleco or gileco, originally from Turkish yelek. Gilet’s may be waist to knee-length, and are usually straight-sided as opposed to fitted. However, historically, they were embroidered and fitted. In the 19th-century dressmaking a gilet was a dress bodice shaped like a man's waistcoat.
